Non-Member Scholarship List

The ΣΑΜ Alumni BBYO Scholarship, Hanno Mott USY Scholarship & the James Alexander NFTY Scholarship are for high school seniors involved with B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, United Synagogue Youth or North American Federation of Temple Youth.
Criteria: High school seniors, planning to attend a four-year college or university with demonstrated involvement with either BBYO, USY or NFTY.
Open To: High school seniors involved in either BBYO, USY or NFTY.
Amount: Three awards at $1000 each

Endowed by Bernard Girson, a retired Lakeview High School staff member, his wife, Elaine, and their son, Aaron, a Lakeview alumnus (Western Michigan, ’92) and ΣΑΜ Foundation Director.
Criteria: Current seniors at Lakeview High School who will attend Western Michigan University. Academic achievement, leadership, & community involvement are also considered, with a preferred interest in history, government, or social sciences.
Open To: Seniors at Lakeview High School, Battle Creek, Michigan

Criteria: Financial need primarily; leadership and academic achievement are considered.
Open To: Daughters of Sigma Alpha Mu alumni who are high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college in the fall, or those currently in college and pursuing a degree.

Endowed by Fra Harv Weisblat (Texas '67), a former Continental Airlines pilot, a retired Air Force Reserve pilot and former Foundation Director. Criteria: This is not a need-based scholarship, but need may be considered.
Open To: Children of ΣΑΜ Alumni and ΣΑΜ undergraduate or graduate students planning for an aviation career such as flying, maintenance, airport or aviation management, flight operations, aeronautical engineering, aviation publishing, air traffic control or other aviation-related fields.
Amount: $5000

Created in memory of Larry Berman (San Jose State/Beta Delta ’65) for any children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of Beta Delta alumni.
Criteria: Must be in college working toward a degree, or a high school senior planning to attend college in the Fall. Financial need, leadership, and academic achievement will be considered
Open To: Legacies of the Beta Delta Chapter alumni
Amount: $2000

Created in memory of Ron Rapchik (Long Island Univ/Mu Phi ’65) for any children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of Mu Phi alumni.
Criteria: Sophomore or above in college working toward a degree. Financial need, leadership, and academic achievement are considered.
Open To: Legacies of the Mu Phi Chapter alumni
Amount: $1000

Created by alumni of the Nu Chapter at University at Buffalo for any children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of Nu alumni.
Criteria: In college or graduate school, working toward a degree, or a high school senior planning to attend college. Financial need, leadership, and academic achievement are considered.
Open To: Legacies of the Nu Chapter alumni.

The William P. Schwartz and Weiss Brothers Scholarships are for children of Sigma Alpha Mu alumni, with a preference to daughters.
Criteria: Financial need primarily; leadership and academic achievement are considered.
Open To: Daughters of Sigma Alpha Mu alumni who are high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college in the fall, or those currently in college and pursuing a degree.
Amount: Total award: $5500, multiple scholarships

Criteria: Must be attending The Ohio State University in the fall semester, from the state of Ohio and a Sigma Alpha Mu – Sigma Beta legacy (sons/daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brothers/sisters of Sigma Beta initiates).
*If Sigma Beta chapter is reactivated prior to the end of the current three-year trial, the scholarships would revert to members of Sigma Beta.
Open to: Incoming Freshman in the Fall
Amount: Two awards up to $1500 each

Criteria: Must be involved in the Jewish community and headed to college in the Fall
Open to: Seniors in the DALLAS AREA
Amount: Three awards at $1000 each
