Your opportunity today is rooted in the vision of a leader who believed that no student should have to walk their educational path alone. Lawrence 'Larry' D. Schaffer (The Ohio State University, '51) was a transformative figure in Sigma Alpha Mu, serving as both International President and President of the Foundation.
Known affectionately as "Uncle Lgarry," he dedicated his life to community service—from being one of the first Jewish Eagle Scouts in Columbus to leading the Foundation’s evolution into a robust scholarship engine. In the late 1970s, Larry spearheaded a landmark campaign to move the Foundation beyond small loans and toward permanent, endowed support.
Larry inspired alumni to invest in the next generation, believing that leadership and scholarship are the cornerstones of a meaningful life. Today, the Lawrence D. Schaffer Endowed Scholarship Program stands as a living tribute to his commitment, ensuring that his legacy of generosity continues to empower you and thousands of other students to lead with integrity.
